Schomp Automotive's Community Involvement

Schomp Automotive is known for its civic involvement.

Schomp employees volunteer hundreds of hours coordinating and working at Schomp-sponsored community events.  Despite bleak economic forecasts for the auto industry, Lisa surprised many by her decision to continue funding Schomp's community partners, maintaining "They need our support now more than ever before."

Knowing how costly space can be for a small business or nonprofit, Lisa and her family offer their large MINI and BMW conference rooms and Schomp BMW's  "Galleria" basement showroom at no charge for meetings, classes, and fundraising events. Giving back to the community has been a longtime Schomp Automotive family tradition, as illustrated by the following:

ANNUAL CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL CHARITY SALE      1986 - PRESENT         
While many Denver area dealerships typically have a "huge inventory clearance" every other week, Schomp Automotive has held just one significant sale annually ? The Children's Hospital Sales Event.  For the last 21 years, Schomp has raised almost $268,000 for the Children's Colorado Burn Center, established over 30 years ago as the only one in the state dedicated to treating pediatric burn patients and providing burn prevention education. Aaron Wallace, fourth generation owner of Schomp Automotive, recently presented a check for $17,500 to the Burn Unit staff at Children's Hospital Colorado. 

CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL COLORADO "CARING & CURING" GALA     2011 
Schomp BMW donated a 12-month lease on an elegant silver 2011 535i TwinPower Turbo luxury sedan valued at $19,500 for the live auction which capped off the 34th annual Children's Hospital Colorado "Caring & Curing" Gala.  Held September 10th at the Hyatt Regency Denver at Colorado Convention Center, the black-tie affair attended by 1,400 supporters raised $1.86 million for The Children's Fund, whose mission is to provide the highest level of pediatric care to all patients, regardless of income.

SCHOMP BMW POLO CLASSIC 2008 - Present          
Reported to be the nation's largest charitable polo tournament, this year's 3-day event raised more than $500,000 for the Denver Active 20-30 Children's Foundation, a philanthropic organization consisting of young professional men ages 20-39 committed to improving the lives of at-risk and disadvantaged children. 

PRESENTING SPONSOR, ANNUAL SCHOMP FIRE TRUCK PARADE & MUSTER 1985 -Present 
This June, Schomp presented its 26th annual Fire Truck Parade & Muster, an educational, free family festival co-hosted by Littleton Fire Rescue and Mile High Hook & Ladder, a volunteer antique fire truck club "dedicated to the preservation, restoration, and operation of fire apparatus in America."  Following the parade from Littleton High School to Arapahoe Community College, spectators enjoyed a "muster"? a showcase of antique and modern-day fire and rescue apparatus; fire safety demonstrations,"jaws of life" auto extrication, medical helicopter rescue, arson dog demonstrations, junior firefighter games, fire truck pull, bucket brigade, and more.

This event is hosted by the St. Andrew Society of Colorado, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization founded in 1963 to provide all persons the opportunity to pursue their interest in Scottish culture.

SILVER SPONSOR, DENVER PRESS CLUB'S DAMON RUNYON AWARD DINNER 2007 - Present 
This annual fundraiser, hosted by the nation's oldest press club, honors leaders in print and electronic journalism, including Rick Reilly, Tom Brokaw, Ted Turner, Tim Russert, and Bob Costas. Proceeds provide scholarships for college journalism students.


PARTNER, COLORADO STATE PATROL, "ALIVE AT 25" 2004 - Present
According to the Colorado State Patrol, vehicle crashes are the #1 cause of death for young people between the ages of 16 and 24.  Schomp takes this statistic very seriously and is proud to be a partner since 2004 with the Colorado State Patrol (CSP) on the National Safety Council's "Alive at 25" Defensive Driving Course. This interactive 4-hour intervention program teaches young drivers how to take responsibility for their behavior behind the wheel.  "Alive at 25" classes are held regularly in Schomp's conference rooms and are free for their customers.  

PARTNER, COLORADO STATE PATROL, "TAKE IT TO THE TRACK" 2004 - Present           
For the past few summers, thousands of teen drivers have raced safely at Bandimere Speedway instead of Colorado streets during the Colorado State Patrol's "Take It To The Track", a 22-event drag racing series for teens, conducted with the support of "Alive at 25".  Lisa Schomp donated a Honda Civic Hatchback used as the official "Alive at 25/Take it to the Track" vehicle used in parades and at Bandimere.  Schomp personnel help prepare the teens' vehicles for racing.  Lisa Schomp was honored with the "Colonel's Award of Excellence by the Chief of the Colorado State Patrol in 2008.

SCHOMP FIRE TRUCK IN ST. PATRICK'S DAY, WESTERN WELCOME WEEK PARADES
Ralph Schomp's classic red 1952 American LaFrance pumper has been a crowd-pleaser in the annual Denver St. Patrick's Day Parade; has been an award-winner in the Western Welcome Week and Englewood Holiday Parades, plus neighborhood parades for the last 25 years.

From 2004 to present, Schomp has sponsored this annual fundraising event, which features leading activist speakers, and over 2,400 community and corporate leaders interested in supporting the Women's Foundation in it its efforts to empower girls and women, and educate the community about their obstacles to economic self-sufficiency.
